Lymphatic drainage isn’t a buzzy new wellness trend – it’s a legitimate manual technique used to stimulate the lymphatic system to relieve swelling and improve health.

Think of your lymphatic network as a transport system: your body contains a ton of vessels carrying around fluid to different parts of your body. Sometimes the fluid gets jammed up (kind of like a traffic jam) which can cause swelling or fluid retention (a.k.a. bloating). This can be caused by stress, lack of sleep, travel or more serious conditions such as surgery, infection, trauma, or diseases such as cancer or autoimmune disorders.

Like the name says, lymphatic drainage is the process of “draining” and circulating fluid from your lymph nodes using massage techniques. It sort of works like a garbage disposal in that it gets rid of “waste” that the body naturally produces, or other things that can invade the body, like bacteria. It drains your body of excess puffiness and can help reduce swelling, improves blood flow and generally decongests excess fluid. Most patients feel lighter with a reduction of pain and inflammation almost immediately post-treatment.

FAQ

If you have any questions about Manual Lymphatic Massage Therapy, please use our chat box, or contact us.

Aside from the time (lymphatic drainage massages are 90 minutes), this type of massage therapy is a gentle form of therapy. The intention of Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage is to help encourage the flow of lymph in a gently rhythmic movement that helps mimic the body’s flow of fluid. Without using lotion and with different degrees of light pressure, your therapist will move slowly and check in as toxins are released. You’ll be feeling lighter in no time.

Every body is different and for that very reason, there is no clear cut answer. Some may feel relief right away and some may need some time before the benefits set in.

Fluid movement during a Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage helps to remove waste and toxins from bodily tissues and can benefit those suffering from fibromyalgia, digestive dysfunction (IBS, bloating, gastritis) as well as other chronic conditions as well as those who have recently suffered from recent surgery - hip, ankle, knee replacements, breast reconstruction/mastectomies.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage helps the following conditions:

  • lymphedema
